The most recent State of the World Population (SOWP) report from the UNFPA estimates that India's population is 1,428,600,000,000 (142.86 crore), an increase of 1.56% over the previous year.
People between the ages of 15 and 64 make up 68% of the population, or more than two thirds of what is typically referred to as a nation's working population. With a population of 1,425.7 million, or 142.57 crore, China is only slightly larger than India.
The average life expectancy in India is 74 for women and 71 for men.
