In pursuance of the TISS mission of creating a people-centered and just society that promotes equality, justice and human rights for all, the School of Law, Rights and Constitutional Governance (SLRCG) was set up at the Mumbai Campus in June 2012. Law, legislative reform and Human Rights have a great role in development and empowerment of societies, communities and individuals. They are effective instruments for empowering and changing the status of the disadvantaged, marginalized, discriminated and vulnerable, in India, and a strong tool for social justice. Legal education must therefore be socially relevant. The main objective of the School is to advance socially relevant legal education and promote the education of human rights.

Master of Law (LLM)

Candidates should have successfully completed Bachelor's or Master's Degree of minimum of 3 or 4 years duration or its equivalent from a university recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India. Some Masters Degree programs will have additional/specific eligibility requirements. M.A. Eligibility


a) Candidates should have successfully completed Bachelor's or Master's Degree of minimum of 3 or 4 years duration or its equivalent  from a university recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India. Some Masters Degree programs will have additional/specific eligibility requirements. Candidates are advised to refer to program specific eligibility criteria (given in the Table below) for more details and ensure that they satisfy such specific eligibility criteria.



b) Candidates who will successfully complete, in all respects, all the requirements of their final year eligible degree (including all examinations and internships, if applicable) by Thursday, September 30, 2021, are also eligible to apply.

c) Those candidates who are eligible to apply, but cannot submit the degree certificate and grade/mark sheet at the time of admission are required to submit these latest by September 30, 2021, failing which their provisional admission would stand automatically cancelled without any further reference to the candidate. The onus will be on the candidate to submit the degree/provisional degree and grade/mark sheet by September 30, 2021. No further extension of date will be allowed under any circumstances.

d) At the time of applying candidates studying in 3 year degree programs should have passed in all the subjects for the 1st to 4th semesters and candidates studying in 4 year degree programs should have passed in all the subjects for 1st to 6th semester.

e) Until a candidate submits her/his degree certificate and final mark/grade sheet as evidence of having successfully completed the eligibility criteria by the given date, the admission offered will remain provisional.

f) Eligibility, determined on the basis of information provided in the application, will be used for the final selection process. If the information provided by a candidate is found to be incorrect or misleading at any point of time, her/his candidature/admission will be summarily cancelled. The Institute shall also reserve the right to take any legal action as deemed fit for any such act of misrepresentation or false declaration.

g) Candidates shortlisted for personal interview are required to produce original certificate and mark sheet on the date of personal interview, for verifying that the candidate is eligible for admission. Those who are in the final year but are eligible to apply (as per clause b, above) are required to produce the mark sheets of all previous semesters (excluding the final semester) for verification on the date of personal interview. Candidates who do not bring the aforesaid certificates in original shall not be allowed to appear for the interview. However due to pandemic, for this year admission original document verification for the provisionally selected candidate will be done at a later stage for which schedule will be notified and no document verification will be done at the time of OPI.
