MADRAS MEDICAL COLLEGE

Madras Medical College, Chennai was started in 1664 as a small hospital which was treating the sick soldiers of East India Company. Sir Edward Winter was instrumental in establishing the British Hospital at Madras. This hospital became Govt. General Hospital in 1664.

In 1842 the Hospital opened its doors to Indians, and in the next two decades, the college was performing with proper teaching staff and comprehensive curriculum. In the year 1850, the college became Madras Medical College and in 1857 the college became affiliated to University of Madras. Since 1988 the college has been affiliated to The Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University. MMC Chennai has nine affiliated institutions with hospitals. It is approved by the Medical Council of India.

Madras Medical College is situated at Park Town Station, Park Town, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The college is about 18 km from the Chennai International Airport and 1 km from Puratchi Thalaivar Dr M.G. Ramachandran Central Railway Station. The Central Bus Depot is about 2 km from the college.

Madras Medical College, Chennai Admission Procedure:-

Madras Medical College, Chennai admissions are offered to B.Pharm, M.Pharm, B.Sc Nursing, Post Basic B.Sc Nursing, and M.Sc Nursing programmes based on the merit of the qualifying exam. Students also have to appear for the counselling conducted by the institute. MMC Chennai admissions to the MBBS programme are offered based on NEET UG scores, to MD, MS and Diploma programmes based on NEET PG scores and to DM and M.Ch programmes based on NEET SS scores. Students also have to appear for the All India level NEET counselling where seats will be allotted based on NEET scores.
